A Comparative Analysis of Modeling Approaches of Photovoltaic Module

Keywords: Photovoltaic module, Insolation level, voltage-current curve, power-voltage curve, PV model.

Climatic data such as insolation level and temperature are indispensable as input variable while designing the photovoltaic based system. The output thus obtained can be current, voltage, power or other parameters of the solar device. In order to outline the attributes, only three variables current, voltage and power are required. If there is any disparity in the data entered, then output gets altered suitably. This research paper presents a comparative analysis of modeling approaches of photovoltaic module studied under different scenarios of varying insolation level and temperature values. Its effect on various parameters of the solar photovoltaic module is also looked into comprehensively. To achieve fidelity, various models based on one diode and two diode models under various instances has been contemplated. MATLAB/Simulink tool is applied to explore the results. Extensive results have been taken under various operating conditions. The performance of PV system has been evaluated using nine different PV system’s parameters. Based on these parameters, these models are compared in detail. The performance of two diode modal is found closer to actual performance as compared to one diode.
